Dr Amaro joined an NHS-England Trust working in different settings including adult acute inpatient units, psychiatry intensive care units (PICU), old age and learning disabilities community teams. He is currently a Consultant Psychiatrist at a Crisis and Home Resolution Team.
He is on the specialist register within the GMC and has a membership with the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He is also a member of the Portuguese Medical Council as well as the Portuguese College of Psychiatry. Currently he works as a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry for the NHS.
Dr Amaro has a special interest in Neuromodulation and has been trained in several Neuromodulation modalities that include Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), Transcranial Direct Cranial Stimulation (TDCs), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Neurofeedback.
He is also a Section 12 approved doctor and DOLS assessor, and he has completed hundreds of mental health act assessment and DOLS assessments in different clinical setting, with high level of complexity. Dr Amaro has undertaken the UKAAN training in assessing adults with ADHD, as part of his special interest and can provide ADHD assessments online, in addition to general adult mental health assessments.
As part of his complementary training, he has completed a Master’s degree in education psychology, a University Certificate in Postgraduate Professional Development (UCPPD) in General Forensic Medicine, a Certificate in Clinical Psychopharmacology and a PhD in Health Psychology.
Dr Alda Amaro

Alda is a Clinical Psychologist and Health Psychologist who has been working in the NHS since 2018. She is HCPC registered and a Chartered Member for the British Psychology Society (BPS) and for the Faculty for People with Intellectual Disabilities.
Alda has worked with individuals across the lifespan, and she is also experienced in supplying Clinical Psychology provision to People with Intellectual Disabilities and Neurodivergent individuals. She is experienced with using evidence-based assessments and formulation and psychological therapies and intervention. She is also trained in assessing Autism with or without associated Intellectual Disability and is experienced in adapting communication, formulation, and therapy to meet the person’s needs.
Continuing professional development is a responsibility that Alda takes seriously, and she genuinely enjoys working and learning together inspiring future generations of Clinical Psychologists. That’s why she loves being a Clinical Supervisor and a visiting Lecturer at Psychology University of Southampton. Alda is a sea lover, and she likes riding her bike and cooking. Alda believes that compassion is always a great way to start something!
